Dear Archbishop Brislin,
I learnt with great sadness, pain and utter shock that the Cathedral of St Mary’s of the Archdiocese was broken into, vandalized, precious liturgical items were stolen and worse of all the Sacred Body of Christ was stolen and therefore desecrated.
On behalf of the Diocese of Port Elizabeth, I offer my sympathies, express my solidarity and prayerful support to the leadership of the Archdiocese, it’s Clergy, Religious and all the Faithful of the local Church in Cape Town. This break-in, stealing and desecration of St Mary’s Cathedral is an affront to God, to our Catholic faith, to Religious freedom, to all Christians, other Faiths and to all people of goodwill. As the Church, the Body of Christ in Africa we all feel your hurt and agony. An injury to one is an injury to all of us.
I, together with our Diocese assure you of our fraternal solidarity and prayers.
Yours in Christ
Bishop Vincent Mduduzi Zungu OFM
